Rodeo & Equestrian Event Photography
Rodeo and equestrian events are what I consider Event Photography, and thus the process and pricing is much different from my limited-edition fine art photography (www.3HPhotography.com). In this day of cell phone cameras and low price-point camera equipment, almost everyone is a photographer. Please appreciate that the images I create are of high quality and they are captured with high quality camera gear. Rodeo and eventing are fast-paced sports that require skill at capturing the action as well as the equipment designed to capture those "money shots" or “hero shots.”
The Process:
3H Photography will shoot the event from beginning to end and will make every effort to capture every rider/cowboy/cowgirl. This can mean taking upwards of 3,000 - 5,000 pictures each day of the event, so it does take a little work to get those images organized let alone processed. I, and my team if that is the case, will make every effort to capture every rider in every event, but we all know there will be circumstances that make this impossible. You will always get my BEST EFFORT!
Due to the sheer number of pictures taken each day of the event, the processing of pictures can be extremely time consuming. Please note that for me (as a colorblind photographer), “processing” doesn’t mean Photoshopping, but only cropping, straightening, and adjusting light. Feel free to bring to my attention something you would like corrected in an image, and if it’s a challenging fix there may be a fee. Nonetheless, as it is inconceivable to process all of the images captured at an event, I need to know who is interested in seeing their images. To indicate your interest, you will need to pay the Look Fee.

Please see the Ordering page for information related to placing an order. Look Fees and print orders are explained on this page, but please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions.
The Look Fee
What is this “Look Fee” all about? There has been some concern raised about having to pay a “Look Fee” to see more than the sample 3-4 pictures of a ride or run although the “Look Fee” is applied to any order. My intention is to answer those concerns by offering some perspective from this end of the lens. While I am committed to showing several sample images for every ride or run so you can see the quality of what was captured, please appreciate that there is a measure of work related to processing those sample images let alone all of the images. Processing as I refer to it is not Photoshopping pictures as I am completely colorblind and it wouldn’t work out, but rather it refers to cropping and potentially adding a little light. I, unlike many of my competitors, will not show or sell a picture straight out of the camera if I think it should be cropped or straightened. Somewhat different from my other work, fast-action sports such as rodeo & eventing result in some pictures showing too much sky or too much arena floor for example, and I think you want the pictures you purchase of you in your sport to be the best they can be. Additionally, at 11 pictures per second, I am capturing close to 90 images of your 8 second bull/bronc ride – that’s a lot of pictures! I wouldn’t be any good at the business end of this deal if I process 90 pictures of a bull rider who has no interest in purchasing pictures. In an eventing example, I could capture 30-40 X-Country images or 30-40 Stadium images on one run, and if you’re not interested in purchasing pictures then I would be processing 60-80 pictures for really no reason. My sports picture pricing is also very reasonable as many of my competitors are charging $100 per digital image with copyright release while in many cases I’m offering up to 80 digital images with copyright release for $95-$150. The last idea I would offer is that a family or senior portrait photographer requires a deposit/partial payment prior to even taking the pictures let alone processing any of them.
Please believe that I absolutely love what I do and love to share my work with everyone, but I also need to make sure that I’m making money while I do it. I also try to create really reasonable price points for all youth sports pictures because I want every child to have at least one memory from the event.
Nonetheless, I think some perspective can be of value in these days where everyone with a phone is a photographer. I truly appreciate your business and extremely kind words about my work, and I hope that you will reach out should you have additional questions about the “Look Fee” or picture pricing.
I’ll see you out there - Peace
I’m committed to your satisfaction, so your happiness is my success.
