Excited to be returning to The Spring Event at Archer
01st June 2023
I am very excited to return for my 5th year as the official photographer for The Event at Archer! This year's Spring Event at Archer will be June 2-4 at the Archer complex just east of Cheyenne. There are 3 phases to the event starting with Dressage on Friday (in both arenas), followed by the Cross-Country phase on Saturday (a few miles west of the arenas), and wrapping up with the Stadium Jump phase on Sunday (back in the arena). Awards presentations occur on Sunday after each division has competed. Eventing is an exciting sport matching highly skilled & trained horse and rider in different phases of horsemanship.
Much has changed in 5 short years, and although there have been a number of bumps along the way, it is an honor to capture the exciting sport of eventing for Allison and her gang of volunteers at the Event at Archer. The Event at Archer is now comprised of two complete events - The Spring Event at Archer and The Fall Event at Archer. Well done, Allison, well done! One of the biggest challenges is always the weather. As with any outdoor sporting event in Wyoming, the weather has consistently provided challenges - especially from a photographic perspective. We've had sunshine, rain, sleet, hail, always some wind, and one event even had so much forest fire smoke that one day had to be cancelled. The reality is while one end of the arena will have sunshine, the other end can be shaded or cloudy which means camera settings must be adjusted during the run - a skill I've had to perfect during rodeos and eventing. On the other end of the spectrum are the numerous positives which include the relationships that I've built (mainly through email as there are few opportunities to chat during the event) and the opportunity to capture people living their passion in a new to me sporting event just to name a few.
You can check out images from this spring's event in the 2023 Spring Event at Archer gallery on the galleries page.
Please consider coming out to Archer and checking out the excitement of Eventing - right here in Cheyenne! I'll see you out there!
